Various Neighborhoods in the urban core of the city:
Hyde Park is a historic district located in Central Austin. It is situated just north of the University of Texas. Developed as Austin's first "suburb" in 1891, it was originally a street car neighborhood with a large artificial lake, but has since become one of the most densely populated areas in Austin's urban core. Part of the area was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. There are fine examples of Queen Anne and Tudor Revival architecture mixed with Craftsman bungalows.
This quaint, quiet Austin neighborhood is only a stone's throw from downtown and is home to unique homes, diverse residents and plenty of history. The streets are hilly with plenty of greenery. Walking to work, restaurants and shops is quite easy from this part of town as you are just a short distance away from everything from Whole Foods to Zilker Park. This urban hub is a great blend of condos, cozy homes and funky apartments is home to many in the city's creative crowd.
Located at the original site of the Austin airport, the community of Mueller was created to be a model for responsible urban development - an alternative to land-consumptive and automobile-dependent development patterns throughout the region that could influence the form and pattern of growth within Austin.
